Various writings and inanities.Art proven to cause cancer in small mammals.Reviews and articles about overpriced, mind-numbing rot.   Or would that be this section? I write about music, but that doesn't mean I know anything about it.Run back home, little one!

I made two new comics! Yes, I know, it's too good to be true. But it is! Those of you expecting a new Life With Jake will be somewhat disappointed, as that is not the route I took, but those of you who are as perplexed as I am with the Bush administration's focus on the defense of marriage (as if it needs defending, isn't the wedding industry one of the largest in the country?) and enjoy some rambling political humor may like it. The other one takes a look at our beloved National Security Advisor. Odds are you won't like either of them, but it's all you're getting for now.

New images for every page. I was getting a little tired of the old ones, as much as I love Trigun. Does this mean that updates may resume? Possibly. I make no guarantees.

Oooooh, one month to the day. Just a housekeeping update today, changing all my old email links to the new one. Now I have to get it set up properly. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

I decided to break my fast of updates with a review of the penultimate film from a big trilogy. Actually, let me correct that. I'm breaking my fast of updates with a review of the penultimate film from a big trilogy that's actually worthwhile. That's right, I have a review of Return of the King ready and rarin' to go, just for you. Enjoy, kids. Dunno when you'll see me again. Hopefully, we'll meet before long.

Not too much to talk about here, just linked to Chapter 5 of my little novelly-thing from Chapter 4 of the same, rectifying a problem I didn't know existed until just a few minutes ago. I also added some new content to the True Tales From The Grocery Store page courtesy of Megaman Network's own Houn, who decided he wanted his grocery store stories to be heard as well. Worked out well for me - a new update and I barely had to do anything. What a country!

Note to those going into college next year: enjoy your free time while it lasts.

No real update to speak of, just clearing off some of the clutter on the front page. I figured I'd harvest all those mini movie reviews and put them onto a page so I could make a quick n' dirty update to the movies section, since I'm having a devil of a time seeing any movies lately (as those of you who have been following my antics can attest to. I've more or less given up on that fabled Elephant review being written any time before the next Ice Age, which takes a great deal of stress off my mind. You'd be amazed how much clearly the human mind works when it doesn't have artificial deadlines imposed upon itself.

If you're still craving some Bryan action, go visit Gamingredients, which finally updated. Sheesh. Took forever, that one.

I should have probably written something to follow up on the Zevon news, but I realized quickly that many others had expressed my sentiments about the passing of that great man with none of my standard-issue fumbling awkwardness. Read those two articles if you're one of the uneducated cretins who doesn't understand why I'm still going on about this.

On a related note, I didn't get a chance to comment on the passing of the incomparable Johnny Cash, either. Rather than another poorly-realized blurb on this page, I think Cash's memory would be best served by saying he was, and remains, one of the last worthwhile and creative minds in the increasingly pop-driven country music scene. For that, and for his amazing talent, he will be missed not only as a singer, but as a human being. There. Now let's all get up, drink some Dew, and sing "A Boy Named Sue" as loud as we can.

On one last music-related note, Stephen F'N Lynch is performing on campus this Friday. You bet your sweet bippy I'll be there, and I'll try have a writeup (and maybe some pictures!) for you guys to pore over and secretly resent my good fortune. What's that, you say? "Who's Stephen Lynch?" Only one of the best musical comedians working today. Go to his website and educate yourself. I'm out.

awooooo...

Well, shit.

I've typed and retyped this post over and over. Nothing I seem to write seems adequate or really captures the situation. Warren Zevon was irrefutably one of the greatest musical minds of the past three decades, and I personally think he's one of the greatest of all time. He consistently put out clever, creative music unlike anything anyone else was doing. Maybe it wasn't always perfect, but it always had heart and soul behind it. He wrote slyly and sardonically, with a dark sense of humor, yet his sentimental side rivalled that of any romantic singer. There is no question that music suffered a great loss on Sunday, but the loss his friends and family suffered is greater still.

I can't say I ever saw Zevon in concert, nor can I say I've been following his career since his first album. But from the moment I heard "Werewolves of London", I was hooked by that wonderfully bizarre, foot-tapping tune, and I immediately started devouring every piece of his music I could get my hands on, loving every bit of it. I was shocked when I found out he was going to die. Every time I listened to one of his songs, the thought floated around in the back of my head. But he lived to finish his final album, and when I listened to that, I thought that maybe it had all been a big hoax, and he was going to be just fine.

Of course, it wasn't.

I'm going to miss Warren, and I extend my deepest sympathies as a fan to his family. If only we could all be so lucky to go out like he did, surrounded by friends and family, doing the things he loved, and living each moment that was left to its fullest. Last October, David Letterman asked Warren if there was anything he had learned from the diagnosis. Zevon replied "I guess I've learned to enjoy every sandwich."

And that's something we should all remember. God bless, Mr. Zevon.

More information about Warren Zevon can be found on both warrenzevon.com and his VH1 Artist page. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family wishes donations be sent to Save the Music.

Remember that Elephant review I promised you? Well...I don't have it. You should know better than to actually expect me to do what I say by now. I got the new Warren Zevon album, though. Odds are you'll see a review for that long before Elephant, but at the rate I'm going, you'd have better odds of contracting some form of Ebola. It'd be less painful, too. I do have some new wallpaper for you in honor of the upcoming release of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Actually, I just had a really big Yoda picture and some rare free time on my hands. I also posted a classic wallpaper of Yuna, that's only available in 800x600. So those of you who are still running Windows 98 or whatever, I've gotcha covered. That's all for now. Later.
